First lady Sandra Deal, Georgia School Superintendent John Barge and other state leaders today will announce an initiative aimed at having all students in Georgia reading on grade level by the year 2020.
The Get Georgia Reading initiative will involve more than 100 leaders and groups in the public and private sectors who will combine efforts to provide nutrition, vaccines and parental engagement — all with an eye toward lifting reading levels.
Deal, a former teacher, Barge and other state leaders will kick off the initiative today with a press conference at the Georgia Public Broadcasting Atrium from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
