Fulton County students made their way back to school classrooms this morning, with district leaders reporting a smooth start.

Dozens of district leaders fanned out into the schools checking to see if registration, transportation and other services were working properly.

“Everything so far has been quiet and fine,” said Samantha Evans, a spokeswoman for the district.

Superintendent Robert Avossa plans to visit seven schools today, both in north and south Fulton, Evans said.

The Fulton County school system is the fourth-largest district in Georgia with a projected 2014-2015 enrollment of approximately 96,300 students – an expected increase of about 1,200 from the previous school year.

The system includes 101 schools: 58 elementary schools, 19 middle schools, 17 high schools and seven startup charter schools.
