The Georgia Virtual School is expected to reach an enrollment of 32,000 students this year, according to numbers released this week by the state Department of Education this week.
The online school, which opened in 2005 and is operated by the state department of education, was created as a way to increase course offerings to students across the state. The school offers 145 courses — including 27 Advanced Placement courses — to public, private and home schooled students.
Enrollment has steadily increased at the school since it was created in 2005. In 2010, enrollment was around 10,000 students.
