Eighth-grade students from Coleman Middle School in Gwinnett County worked with their teachers to create a learning project for students at Chattahoochee Elementary School. The eighth-graders worked two months on the project that focused on the rock cycle. When the lesson was completed, the 65 eighth-graders used it to teach students in nine third-grade classes at the nearby elementary school. Teachers and students at both schools called the exercise a success. "I didn't think I would like to work with younger kids, but they were so excited to learn from us. I felt like a positive role model, and that was amazing," said Sidney Wright, an eighth-grader at Coleman Middle School. Cheri Jones, a STEM coordinator at Coleman Middle School, said, "Part of STEAM learning for Coleman teachers and students is to work within the community to create excitement and understanding of what we do each day."
