Ivy Prep Academy, a public charter school with campuses in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, is scheduled to end its high school programs today.

The academy announced its plans at the beginning of October, citing a budget deficit to operate its high school classes and inadequate student performance. About 90 students were taking high school classes at Ivy Prep, which has three campuses, school officials have said.

Some parents and community activists have criticized the decision and complained the academy has not been open about its decision-making process.

The State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia on Wednesday approved Ivy Prep’s proposal to restructure its classes. Ivy Prep officials have said they are working with parents and students to help them find new schools.
