The broadcast and distance learning team from Gwinnett County Public Schools won three Emmy Awards from the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Two Emmys were for “Q’s Story,” and another was for “The Cooper O’Brien Courage Award.” Arquevious “Q” Crane was paralyzed in a varsity football game, but not only graduated from high school on time but went on to obtain a college degree. The video is a testament to his character and compelling drive to “just keep moving.”

Cooper O’Brien was diagnosed with a rare cancer while attending North Gwinnett Middle School. His battle and his desire to live his last year of life as close to normally as possible set the stage for his family, friends, and school to rally behind him. The Cooper O’Brien Memorial Courage Award was established to keep his legacy and spirit alive, and the video helped to shine a light on his life and his lasting message to “just keep believing.”

Greg LaHatte, the school district’s director of broadcast and distance learning, said, “Our schools, teachers, students, and staff should also be commended for it is their stories we tell that win the acclaim of the Academy and our industry peers.”
