A three-member Atlanta Public Schools’ tribunal will deliberate Thursday, Nov. 1, on whether to recommend to the school board that it not renew the contract of M.A. Jones Elementary School 5th grade teacher Precious Moon. The tribunal heard Moon’s case Monday, Oct. 29, during which APSattorneys argued that Moon should be terminated because she allegedly “prompted” students to change answers on the 2009 Criterion-Referenced Competency Test at the center of a cheating scandal that has implicated about 180 APS educators. Moon’s attorney said APS has no evidence, or witnesses, to substantiate those allegations. Moon did not break the rules when she reminded students to stay focused and “check your answers” during the tests, a state education official testified during the hearing.
