With possible wintry weather hitting metro Atlanta, parents and students will be keeping an eye on the skies and hoping it either does or does not snow.

The person who will make the call to close schools is Superintendent Meria Carstarphen.

In consultation with her staff, and after getting information from law enforcement and weather forecasts, Carstarphen will make the call, typically very early in the morning, then the system will begin to notify the public.

The system works closely with media such as Channel 2 Action News and radio station WSB radio at 750 on the AM dial, to inform the public when school closings occur.
Parents can also find out when schools close on the Atlanta Public Schools' website at www.atlanta.k12.ga.us. Information is also found the APS Twitter account, which can be found at @apsupdate. Individual schools also have Facebook and web pages which can be checked.

Should schools close during the day when students are already in attendance, information will be provided through local media, and bus transportation will be provided in the same manner as during the regular close of the school day.
