A DeKalb County police sergeant is accused of shooting and killing her husband as he assaulted their daughter, the GBI said Thursday.

Around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sabrina Dorsey shot Lawrence Dorsey at their Monticello home, the GBI said. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI’s assistance in investigating the shooting.

“The preliminary investigation shows that Sabrina Dorsey shot Lawrence Dorsey while he was physically assaulting their daughter,” a GBI spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.

The DeKalb police department was notified of the shooting Tuesday night. Dorsey has been placed on administrative leave, according to the department.

An autopsy on Lawrence Dorsey was scheduled for Thursday.
