A Gainesville man is now facing seven more charges in an October crash that killed a teenager in Gainesville, authorities said.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office obtained arrest warrants for 25-year-old Shannon Dwight Beauford on Monday, charging him with second-degree cruelty to children, serious injury by vehicle, DUI of drugs, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to maintain lane and driving without a license, according to spokesman Derreck Booth.

Beauford has been held in the Hall County jail since the Oct. 4 crash that killed 17-year-old Madison Nicole Gray of Gainesville, Booth said in a news release. Gray was a passenger in a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by Beauford at about 5:30 a.m. Beauford didn’t maintain his lane in the 3700 block of White Sulphur Road, which led to the crash, according to Booth.

“The car left the roadway and rolled, striking a culvert and embankment,” Booth said.

Gray was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Beauford was taken into custody after he was treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He was initially charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, Booth said.

Authorities have not said how Gray and Beauford knew each other.
