Sunshine is returning to North Georgia on Friday.

After several days of rain, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said all of Friday’s daylight hours should be dry. There are some low clouds and stray showers around Friday morning, but they should not pose much of a threat to the drive into work and school, he said.

“For your morning drive, could be a little fog around, could be some reduced visibility, but we’re doing a lot better than we were yesterday morning when we had all that heavy rain,” he said. “That is working in our favor to start the day.”

The clouds and remaining rain should clear out quickly once the sun comes up. By 1 p.m., North Georgia will be looking really nice for any outdoor plans, Monahan said.

Atlanta will still be a little chilly with a projected high of 49 degrees, but it will be sunny, according to Channel 2. Temperatures are expected to plummet overnight for a start in the 20s and 30s on Saturday morning.

“With total sunshine, we’ll be up near 50 for a high tomorrow afternoon,” Monahan said. “An easy forecast for Saturday, and a really nice one.”

Lots of dry air pumping into North Georgia will mean blue skies for Saturday, he said. A couple of clouds could move in Sunday, but Monahan said most of the moisture will stay to the west of the region.

“And that will mean plenty of sun to finish off the weekend,” he said.

With the start of spring a month away, Monahan said temperatures will begin climbing. Early next week, he expects metro Atlanta will see highs in the 60s.

Dry pavement Friday morning should mean a much smoother morning drive than the day before, when crashes caused interstate shutdowns and tough delays.

At 6 a.m., there are no major issues on metro Atlanta interstates, including the Downtown Connector, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

“Right now, it is lighter-than-normal metrowide,” traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
