More dry hours in Atlanta on Friday will mean more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, but it will push temperatures even higher.
A projected high of 87 degrees is actually considered below average for this time of year, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Still, he said Friday will be a hot one with a low 20% chance of a shower or storm.
“The umbrella, for the most part, you don’t have to worry about that today,” Monahan said. “It should stay pretty dry for most of North Georgia for the afternoon.”
Temperatures are in the 60s for a mild start to the day.
Monahan said Friday won’t be total sunshine. He expects a partly cloudy sky over North Georgia this afternoon, with the best chance of rain to the west. More clouds could mean more showers Saturday, he said.
Rain chances increase to 40% Saturday, when afternoon storms and showers are expected to become more widespread. Monahan said it will not be a washout.
“Sunday is going to be the better outdoor day,” he said. “Upper 80s for highs. It should be mainly dry.”
Metro Atlanta should not see a return to the 90s until next week, according to the latest forecast.

“Everything is fine on the Northside, Eastside, Southside, Westside” as the Friday morning drive kicks off, WSB traffic reporter Mark Arum said. There are no delays or major crashes on any metro Atlanta interstate at 6:30 a.m.
In northeast Atlanta, Cheshire Bridge Road remains closed south of Lavista Road after a fire that ruptured a gas line and compromised a bridge. The gas line was repaired Thursday night, and the road could reopen Friday morning, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
