DeKalb County authorities said a man wanted in connection to a Nov. 9 shooting death during a card party was accompanied by friends and family as he turned himself in Wednesday.

Allen David Watson III was joined by the people who helped him decide to surrender as he walked into the DeKalb County Jail on Wednesday, according to Cynthia Williams, public information officer for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. They had been recruited by the sheriff’s office’s fugitive squad to help bring him into custody without incident.

Watson is charged with murder, accused of shooting Jackise Mickie with a handgun. The incident happened in the 5600 block of Wellborn Creek Drive in Lithonia and was allegedly during a card game, Williams said.

Both Watson and Mickie had been invited to the home to socialize and play cards, police previously told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

At some point during the evening, the men got into an argument “that escalated into the suspect pulling out a weapon and shooting the victim,” DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish told The AJC.

Police found Mickie shot to death in the home’s garage.
