A man accused of killing an 18-year-old is back in jail after prosecutors said he violated his bond and roamed the metro Atlanta area while he was on house arrest.

A Fulton County judge revoked Jatavious Avante Barnes’ bond in an emergency hearing Thursday, according to court documents.

Barnes was arrested Jan. 15, 2019, in connection with the death of Julius Thorne, according to jail records.

An indictment said Barnes and another man, Jamarcus Marquiez Parker, were in a gang and intended to rob Thorne on June 30, 2018. At some point during the exchange, Barnes shot Thorne, the indictment said.

Barnes was released from the Fulton County jail March 13, 2019, on a $260,000 bond, jail records show.

Barnes’ release was conditional on him having no contact with Parker, not using drugs or alcohol and not committing any additional crimes, according to Fulton District Attorney Paul Howard. Barnes was placed on house arrest at his Union City home and ordered to wear an ankle monitor at all times, the motion said.

However, according to Howard, Barnes violated the terms of his bond on multiple occasions. In an emergency motion to revoke his bond, the district attorney said a location report showed that Barnes had visited numerous locations across metro Atlanta.

“The defendant has clearly shown that he will not abide by the basic restrictions of bond,” the motion said. “Further, defendant has clearly demonstrated by violating the conditions of his bond that if permitted to remain on bond, he will continue to violate the special condition of bond, making him a severe risk to the community while awaiting trial.”

Thorne’s father, Lawrence Thorne, said he reached out to the district attorney after some of the teen’s friends saw Barnes in a store, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Barnes was returned to the Fulton jail. He is charged with felony murder, murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony.
