A social media threat that prompted officials to strengthen police presence at Mill Creek High School on Tuesday originated in Ohio, an official said.
“We have confirmed the threat was made by a student who lives in Ohio,” principal Jason Lane said in a letter to parents.
“I have personally spoken with the school officials in Ohio who have assured me they will handle the matter with the student in question.”
The exact nature of the threat and the specific social media platform on which it was made were not disclosed.
Gwinnett police had responded to the situation, Cpl. Deon Washington said.
Mill Creek High, which is in Hoschton, was on a normal class schedule in spite of the threat, Gwinnett schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach said. The school has an enrollment of about 3,700 students.
“I want to assure you that your student's safety is our top priority, as it is every day,” Lane said in an earlier letter to parents. “Rest assured that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. I know these types of situations can be unsettling.”
