A Florida police officer is in custody after he threatened to kill a Georgia woman in order to obtain nude photos of her, authorities said.
Joshua David Fancher, 25, is charged with two counts of terroristic threats, Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk told the Valdosta Daily Times.
Fancher was taken into custody Tuesday at the Orange City (Fla.) Police Department and is in the Volusia County (Fla.) jail without bond, officials said.
“The victim reported receiving numerous threatening messages from an unknown person attempting to extort her for nude photographs,” said Andrew Gant, spokesman for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The messages started on Instagram and “included threats to kill the victim and kill and/or rape her family members” if she didn’t provide the photos, Gant said.
Fancher resigned Tuesday after he was confronted with the charges, and detectives searched his home.
He had worked for the Orange City force for less than a year, according to the Daily Times.
Fancher is awaiting an extradition hearing regarding his transfer to Lowndes County, the Daily Times reported.
