A car fleeing officers on northbound I-85 struck a Troup County sheriff’s car Thursday morning, injuring the deputy inside, officials said.

The incident began about 9:40 a.m. when Hogansville police attempted a traffic stop, Troup sheriff’s spokesman Stewart Smith said. The car drove away and the chase went onto I-85.

Deputies put out stop sticks, and the car went into the median, striking the car driven by chief deputy Jon Whitney, Smith said. Whitney’s injuries were not serious. He was evaluated and released at West Georgia Medical Center.

Three people were arrested, Smith said. Charges are not known.

All northbound lanes of I-85 reopened about 11 a.m. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
