WSB, partners launch Convoy of Care to help victims of Hurricane Ian

Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian, Channel 2 Action News and its sister radio stations — News 95.5 WSB, B98.5, 97.1 The River and KISS 104.1 — are partnering with law enforcement and other local organizations to bring disaster relief to Florida communities ravaged by the storm.

The news station is launching its Convoy of Care on Monday to collect donations such as cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, socks and underwear, as well as baby supplies like diapers, wipes and formula. Only new items will be accepted at one of three in-person donation sites.

“We need to get water and other relief supplies to the hardest hit areas as soon as possible,” said Clarence Cox, past president of NOBLE, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. “We will get the Convoy of Care into the impacted areas as soon as authorities allow.”

The partnership, which includes the nonprofit organization Caring for Others and the Georgia Motor Trucking Association, began in 2016 to bring relief to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the wake of historic flooding.

“Hurricane Ian devastated many parts of Florida and people need immediate relief,” said WSB-TV Director of Community and Public Affairs Condace Pressley. “These communities need our help now, and we are counting on the entire metro Atlanta community to respond.”

The Convoy of Care will accept donations in person Monday at:

• WSB-TV, 1601 West Peachtree Street in Atlanta, from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

• Caring for Others, 3537 Browns Mill Road in Atlanta, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• First Baptist Church of Woodstock, 11905 Ga. 92 in Woodstock, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Monetary donations, which will go directly to communities impacted by the hurricane, can made online at Caring4Others.org/hurricane-disaster-relief/.
