No charges have been filed after a Clayton County police officer hit and injured a 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle Monday.

The accident occurred about 6:20 p.m. as the boy was attempting to cross Jonesboro Road near the intersection with Battle Creek Road, Clayton police Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

“The officer immediately stopped his vehicle and rendered aid until members of Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the scene to treat and assess the bicyclist,” Marbury said.

The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and northbound lanes of Jonesboro Road were temporarily closed while the Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident.

GSP Officer R. Youngblood told Channel 2 Action News the officer had not activated his emergency lights or sirens at the time of the accident. Youngblood did not know where the officer was headed.
