The man shot to death by Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies over the weekend was identified by the county coroner Monday as a 55-year-old man with a Canton address.

Carl Thomas Langford II died Saturday after he was shot outside his home, according to Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to Langford’s home shortly before noon Saturday following a report of a domestic dispute with suicidal threats, Baker said.

Langford was outside the residence firing a .45-caliber handgun when deputies arrived, Baker said.

Deputies ordered Langford to drop the gun, but he refused and was shot by deputies, Baker said. Langford later died from his injuries.

The GBI is investigating the incident. Additional information regarding the case was not available Monday due to the state holiday.

Three deputies have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the investigation, Baker said.
