The game is still on, and the payoff is even higher.
The Georgia Lottery drew the six winning Powerball numbers Wednesday night, and no one matched those numbers in the multi-million dollar jackpot. Another drawing is scheduled for Saturday. This time, the jackpot stands at $317 million.
That’s an increase of $63 million, up from $254 million in Wednesday’s jackpot.
Five winners, one each in Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maine and New York, took home $1 million each after winning in Wednesday’s drawing, but none matched all five numbers plus the coveted 6th power play number to win it all.
So what could you buy for $300 million? How about a private island, for starters? This 1,100 acre island in the Greek Ionian Sea is offered at a cool $60 million. Or if island living is not your thing, this 1,300 acre Scottish estate is available for a mere $12 million, complete with 17 estate houses and cottages.
The Powerball jackpot peaked at $590 million in May — the largest jackpot in the multi-state game’s history, and the second-largest jackpot in U.S. history, said Georgia Lottery officials at the time.
Florida resident Gloria Mackenzie, 84, held the winning ticket, and took home a $331 million cash payout.
But risk-takers shouldn’t get their hopes up, according to figures posted on the Georgia Lottery website. The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 175 million. In fact, you are 17 times more likely to be President of the United States than win the Powerball jackpot.
The Mega Millions jackpot also rolled over from Tuesday’s drawing. The next drawing for the $119 million prize is scheduled for Friday.
