A Duluth man was sentenced to 29 years in federal prison for making pornographic movies of young boys.

As part of his plea agreement with federal prosecutors, Todd Alexander Pell also will plead guilty in Gwinnett County Superior Court to six counts of aggravated sodomy.

Authorities first heard about Pell in June 2013 when a 14-year-old boy told the Duluth police he had been sexually assaulted over three months by a man who initially hired him to do yard work.

The boy said at first he did the yard work but eventually Pell propositioned him and then Pell started taking explicit photos of the teenager while he was sexually abusing him. After each attack, according to court records, Pell paid the boy and took him out to eat.

Pell, 44, also photographed two older teens he brought to his house to sexually assault the 14-year-old.

The investigation of the allegations brought by the 14-year-old led federal agents and the Gwinnett County Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office to the discovery of other boys Pell had sexually abused. There was child pornography on Pell’s computers, according to statements made when Pell pleaded guilty in June to one count of making child pornography.

Even after Pell is released from prison, he will have to register as a sex offender and he will be on probation for the rest of his life.

“The repeated acts of sexual abuse committed by Pell are appalling” said U. S. Attorney Sally Yates. “We applaud the victim who had the courage to come forward and expose this abuse; he likely saved other young boys from the same fate.”
