A 53-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle after falling off his bicycle Friday night in Marietta, according to police.
Investigators believe the man, whose name was not released, was riding his bike on the sidewalk along the northbound lanes of Franklin Road when he lost control of the bike around 9:30 p.m., Officer David Baldwin with Marietta police said.
The man fell off the bike, landing partially onto Franklin Road, where he was struck by a 1996 Honda Civic, Baldwin said. The Honda’s driver was unable to avoid the cyclist, according to police.
The bicyclist died at the scene of the crash, which temporarily blocked the northbound lanes of Franklin Road.
The crash remains under active investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Nick Serkedakis at 770-794-5364
