An Atlanta man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal May shooting in Athens.
U.S. Marshals and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department apprehended Corey Antwan Blount, 33, of Atlanta, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest in connection to the May 10 shooting, police told Channel 2 Action News.
Blount allegedly shot two Athens men outside of a Commerce Road night club. Derrick Merritt, 22, was killed and Jamaris Walter, 22, was wounded, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Both are believed to have been innocent bystanders.
Blount faces charges including felony murder, malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Athens-Clarke County police. Blount was also wanted in Fulton County on unrelated charges.
