Two people were injured in a shooting Thursday afternoon on a MARTA train at the Five Points station in downtown Atlanta.

Officers responded to the northbound train shortly after the shooting around 5 p.m., MARTA police spokeswoman Sgt. Deneya Littles said in an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

One person was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper chest but was conscious and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, Littles said. The second victim was grazed by a bullet on their left forearm, but police did not say if they required medical attention.

The shooting caused delays and operational changes throughout the MARTA system, according to social media posts from the agency. All trains at the Five Points, Civic Center and Peachtree Center stations were required to board from the southbound platform for about an hour.

Police activity cleared in the Five Points station around 6:30 p.m., MARTA officials said.

No further details have been released by MARTA police or other officials, including the identities of the victims or the circumstances around the shooting. Police did not say whether a suspect had been identified or if any arrests have been made.
