There could be some showers and storms around when Georgia voters line up outside their polling places Tuesday.

There is a 60% chance of rain, and most of that will be confined to the afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

It is a good idea to grab an umbrella and rain jacket before leaving home, he said.

“If you want to avoid the rain, early morning is probably going be your best time to get out there and vote, if you plan to do that today,” Monahan said.

Metro Atlanta is dry and mostly fog-free to begin Tuesday. The same can’t be said for neighborhoods outside the Perimeter. A few showers are falling in the northeast Georgia mountains.

“These are moving to the north, away from metro Atlanta this morning,” Monahan said. “We will wait until later this morning and into the afternoon for our shower and storm chances to go on up.”

It may not be wet in metro Atlanta, but there is plenty of tropical moisture. Tuesday will be a hot and muggy afternoon with highs in the mid- to upper 80s, according to Channel 2.

“The humidity is sky high,” Monahan said. “It’s tropical today and tomorrow, but a big drop in the humidity as we head into the end of the week.”

The lower humidity will not mean lower temperatures, however. Highs in the 80s are in the forecast through the weekend, Monahan said.

Another 60% chance of showers and storms is in Wednesday’s forecast before North Georgia turns drier. Both Thursday and Friday have only a 20% chance of rain, according to Channel 2.

There are no early delays on metro Atlanta interstates Tuesday morning, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

“The interstates are fine heading from the suburbs into the city,” traffic reporter Mark Arum said at 6 a.m.

Conditions could deteriorate later Tuesday as volume increases and pavement becomes wet, the Traffic Center reported.
