The weather pattern is shifting after the holiday weekend.
North Georgia will be cooler Tuesday, and it will see rain earlier in the day, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon. Where showers and storms made for a wet Monday evening, most will see the bulk of their rain activity early Tuesday.
Not everyone will get wet all at once, Deon said.
“There is a good bet that we are going to be dealing with some scattered rain showers up until about noon,” she said. “Then as we head into the afternoon, it’s going to become a little more isolated.”
Rain has already started in the northeast Georgia mountains Tuesday morning. Showers will continue moving south over the next couple of hours, Deon said.
Temperatures will also drop a few more degrees. Metro Atlanta is starting warm in the low 70s, according to Channel 2.
“You'll notice (the cooldown) as we continue on through the morning and on into the afternoon because our temperatures just aren’t going to move all that much,” Deon said.
She expects Atlanta to hold at about 70 degrees through lunchtime before eventually warming up to a high of 76 degrees. Monday’s high was 85.
There will be fewer breaks in the clouds Tuesday, and the rain chance will stick around through the day, Deon said.
“Although at 1 p.m. it looks like we're going to be quiet and dry, I do think we're going to be in line for more scattered showers and even a few isolated thunderstorms,” she said.
Another cooler day with highs in the 70s is in the forecast for Wednesday, but Deon said temperatures will return to the 80s Thursday.
The upper level low that is providing the moisture for daily showers and storms will eventually move out, she said. Rain is only 20% likely Saturday, according to the latest forecast.
“By the weekend, we’ll have some drier air moving in, so those rain chances will get a chance to drop off,” Deon said.
Volume on the interstates is expected to pick up Tuesday after the Memorial Day weekend, but there are no early problems, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
“There are some folks on the road, but we’re still calling it lighter than normal metrowide,” traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
