A cloudy, rainy Saturday is on tap for pretty much all of Georgia.
It’s not all gloom, though, since Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said the rain will hold off for a few hours. This morning, which started off in the low 60s, just hasn’t featured much sunshine.
“It’s not going to be a bad morning,” he said. “Just a lot of cloud cover and maybe a sprinkle or two, but no more than that.”
A warm front moving north through Georgia could create some spotty afternoon showers in the northeast corner of the state, Burns said. By then, Atlanta should be nearing its projected afternoon high of 74 degrees.
Things could change this evening, however, as a cold front enters the state from Alabama, dousing west Georgia and metro Atlanta with heavier storms and showers, Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
“The heavy rain is still well to our west, but all that rain will eventually get into the area as that cold front moves in,” Deon said.
While she doesn’t expect the rain to be severe, she said there is a 60% chance of showers in Atlanta.
“Be on the alert for a rumble of thunder and some heavy rain (Saturday) night into Sunday morning,” Burns said.
Both Kennesaw State and Georgia State have home football games Saturday, which could feature some showers. Kennesaw State hosts Monmouth at 2 p.m., while Troy visits Georgia State at 7 p.m.
The Hawks also have their home opener against the Orlando Magic at 7:30 p.m. at State Farm Arena. As a result, expect MARTA and downtown surface streets to be crowded before and after the game.

The same traffic alert applies Sunday at 1 p.m., when the Falcons host the Seattle Seahawks at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Sunday will be just about as warm as Saturday, but the sun will peek out of the clouds a little more, Burns said. The rain chance also drops to 30%.
