Pollen count soars to 5,098 — highest since 2015
Wondering why you’re sniffling and feeling yucky?
Today’s pollen count — 5,098 particles per cubic meter of air — is the highest since April 9, 2015, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma.
The figure eclipses last year’s season high of 3,559 and the 2016 season high of 4,106.
“At these levels, patients with allergies to tree pollens will experience symptoms,” Atlanta Allergy and Asthma said in a statement. “The main tree pollen contributors today are oak, pine, hackberry, mulberry and willow.”
And if the latest forecast sticks, the pollen count could continue to rise. The highest pollen count over the past decade is 9,369, which was recorded on March 20, 2012.

According to Channel 2 Action News, Atlanta could see highs of 72 today, 76 Thursday, 78 Friday and 80 Saturday.
Because of those temperatures, trees and other plants are releasing excessive pollen, officials said.
“Amazing what a little sun can do,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “No rain and warm temperatures through the rest of the week likely means a really tough week for allergy sufferers.”
