Over 700 people are still without power after heavy rain toppled over trees and brought down utility lines in metro Atlanta Monday evening.
Georgia Power reported more than 5,600 customers statewide were impacted by outages after the heavy rain.
The rain brought a tree down on top of a car outside of Einstein’s on Juniper Street in Midtown. Channel 2 Action News reported nobody was inside the car at the time.
The wet weather put a damper on traffic in the evening hours. Some delays remain in south Fulton County after an earlier multivehicle wreck on I-85 South at Ga. 74 blocked all lanes, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. The crash cleared just after 5 p.m.
A brief shower also caused problems in Sandy Springs, making the always difficult Ga. 400 commute even more challenging than usual. More rain was reported in north DeKalb County and on the Southside in East Point and College Park.
The last hangup was in Cobb County, where a tractor-trailer was blocking the right lane of I-285 northbound at Atlanta Road. Inner loop traffic stretches back to I-20.
Earlier, a fatal crash shut down Flat Shoals Road at Guilford Lane west of Old National Highway in South Fulton for hours. According to Channel 2 Action News, the wreck involved a 16-year-old girl driving without a license.

The road reopened just before 4 p.m.
Other showers popped up Monday afternoon around North Georgia as temperatures reached 90 degrees in Atlanta, according to Channel 2. It was 82 degrees at 8 p.m.
While today’s rain was mainly light and brief, Tuesday could bring a more severe threat. Isolated strong storms are possible, mainly north of I-20, according to meteorologist Brad Nitz. Lightning and hail are possible, and winds could reach 60 mph in some locations.
The chance of rain Tuesday is 60 percent. After a drop to 30 percent Wednesday, the chance ramps up to 80 percent for Thursday.
“Late tonight we could see a few isolated showers develop as we move toward midnight around metro Atlanta, and then a better chance of rain for (Tuesday),” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “We've got strong wind moving into North Georgia, you put all that together with the day's heating, and there will be a few strong storms around.”
