If shockingly high airfares have kept you from planning a dream trip across the pond, here’s some relief.

Two deals to the United Kingdom offer outstanding values. One offer is an air-only deal (and today-only) and the other offer to London lands you two free hotel nights.

First the air-only offer. United takes you to Shannon, Ireland at a nicely discounted rate of $770 when you travel now through May 16 or on Aug. 25-Dec. 7 departures. Normally this route in late August prices at around $1,500!

To qualify, give at least a one-week advance notice of travel. Travel east Sundays-Thursdays and west Mondays-Thursdays. Add $35 each way for other travel days. Plan to be away at least one Saturday night and as long as one year.

This United Airlines exclusive offer has no ticket-by date. This indicates the deal is fleeting and could vanish at anytime. Make haste to make your ticket purchases.

Consider this great offer for a long Thanksgiving weekend getaway.

United serves Shannon with one flight connection in Newark, N.J.

Another savings promotion to the U.K. comes from British Airways.

Book a round-trip flight to London, Manchester or Newcastle, England or to Edinburgh or Glasgow, Scotland for trips you plan to finish on or before May 13 and enjoy a complimentary two-night hotel stay. The two-night stay must be taken on consecutive nights in the same city. To qualify, tickets must be booked on or before March 31.

Sample round-trip airfare rates to each of the qualifying destinations are $982 when departing the states through March 20.

Open-jaw itineraries are permitted which gives travelers the opportunity to fly into one city and out of another. For instance, you might consider using the two free nights in London (where you’ll get the biggest bang on the free stay) and then traveling by road or rail up to Scotland and returning home with British Airways from Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Accommodation choices range from small independent boutique hotels to premium four-star hotels.

In addition, this “Better Island Vacation” promotion gives travelers discounts on admission to the Tower of London, Kensington Palace and Hampton Court Palace. Other discounts include a reduced rate of £27 per person (about $43) to a premium theatre experience that includes best seat in the stalls or dress circle, reserved beer, wine or soft drink at the intermission and a souvenir program to these West End shows: MAMMA MIA!, The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, Singin’ in the Rain and The 39 Steps.
