Looking for a special holiday gift for your family or significant other? How about a trip to Fiji? The Pacific Island nation will reopen to tourists December 1.

“We are ecstatic that Fiji will open its borders to international visitors before the end of the year,” Tourism Fiji’s CEO Brent Hill said in a statement. “This is the moment we have been planning for nearly two years now and I can assure the world that Fiji is safe and ready to welcome you back. The islands are just as beautiful — if not more beautiful — than ever and the locals just as warm and friendly. Fiji is the vacation the world needs and deserves right now, and we can finally offer that again starting December.”

With 333 islands, Fiji has something for just about everyone.

“Brimming with smiles and ‘Bulas!’ Fiji’s famously friendly people love welcoming visitors to their islands,” Tourism Fiji’s website states. “You’ll find adventure waiting for you in lush rainforests or fish-filled lagoons where you can swim, ride rapids, trek rural roads and surf world class waves to your heart’s content. Or simply tune out the world and laze in hammock on the beach for a bit.”

It’s easy to find lodging and adventures for the entire family, with meal deals and kids’ clubs for small children.

There are also resorts set aside for adults only, which make them perfect for a romantic Christmas or New Year’s celebration. You can pamper your body at a spa and treat your palette “with locally sourced seafood and the succulent, smoky flavours of Fijian delights cooked in a traditional underground oven,” Tourism Fiji wrote.

There are COVID-19 protocols attached to visiting Fiji. The islands are open only to fully vaccinated travelers who provide a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours before leaving the States. There is also a requirement to take a rapid test 48 hours after arriving to your resort. Unvaccinated children under the age of 18 are welcome when accompanied by a vaccinated adult.

“It’s been almost two years since we welcomed international visitors,” Fiji Minister for Tourism, Faiyaz Koya, said in a statement. “And in these two years, we’ve struggled, we’ve adapted, and we’ve prepared. Today, our national airline is ready, our hotels and tour providers are ready, and Fijians are ready to safely welcome the world back. We are ready to let happiness find you again.”

December packages starting at $1,299 include six nights’ accommodation, international airfare, all meals, transfers and more are now available to book on Fiji Airways. Additional packages for 2022 will be available soon, the tourism board said.
