It’s high season for the beach, and the National Ocean Service is reminding beachgoers, if they see a Portuguese man o’ war, a type of sea animal related to the jellyfish, not to touch it. It has a painful sting and can sting you “even weeks after having washed ashore.”

And that’s not the only organism to avoid touching on the beach and under water.

The National Ocean Service advises you to avoid these five sea creatures at the shore:

  • JellyfishSea
  • Urchins
  • Lionfish
  • Singrays
  • Sharks
