______

The island (36 square miles) is partitioned between two different nations - French St. Martin and Dutch St. Maarten. Each side offers a distinct culture. There is no real border, just modest monuments and signs.

The French side has a reputation of elegance, secluded beaches, luxury resorts and the finest dining in the Caribbean.

Dutch St. Maarten occupies about one third of the island. Most notable are the casino hotels and hot nightlife. The Dutch side tends to be a less expensive option for vacationers.

Take the time to explore both cultures with an afternoon strolling the boardwalk in the Dutch capital of Philipsburg, and exploring the very French town of Marigot. Then try to choose which of the island’s 37 beaches you’ll visit.
