Good news: The Thrashers will open the 2009-10 season at home.
Bad news: It’s one of only four games at Philips Arena the entire first month.
The Thrashers host division-rival Tampa Bay at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 to start the next NHL season, but it will be a short homestand as they play their next five games on the road.
Other highlights of the schedule:
● Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh comes to Philips Arena on Nov. 21. The Thrashers also end the regular season by hosting the Penguins on April 10.
● Former Thrasher Marian Hossa will not return to Philips Arena this season, as Chicago does not come to Atlanta this season. Other teams not visiting Atlanta are Calgary, Colorado, Detroit, Minnesota and Vancouver.
● The Thrashers play 18 games against the Western Conference, including a home-and-home series against Columbus, Nashville and St. Louis. Some of the other Western teams that come to Philips are San Jose, Los Angeles, Edmonton, Anaheim and Phoenix.
● The Thrashers play at Detroit on Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving.
● The Thrashers have no home games near Christmas. The play at home Dec. 21 and don’t return to Philips until Jan. 7.
● The Thrashers won’t play from Feb. 14 to March 1 when the NHL stops for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
● In the month of March, the Thrashers play 11 of 14 games at home. They play 9 of 14 games at home in November.
Start times for Monday-Thursday and Saturday home games will continue to be at 7 p.m. All Friday games will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday home games will start at 5 p.m., with the exception of Nov. 15 (vs. Edmonton), which starts at 2 p.m.
Individual game tickets for the regular season go on sale Sept. 12.
