Miguel Patrick, who led Cedar Grove to a 2019 state title and reached the Class 3A quarterfinals at Crisp County last season, announced Friday he was stepping down.

Crisp County promoted offensive coordinator Lawrence Smith to replace Patrick.

Patrick is expected to join the staff of a major college program this month, but no announcement on Patrick’s future has been made. Patrick posted news of his resignation on Twitter, thanking Crisp County for the opportunity and its support.

Patrick had been Cedar Grove’s defensive coordinator during state titles in 2016 and 2018 and also was the boys basketball coach at the DeKalb County for a time.

His Crisp County team, which had graduated most of its top players, started 0-3 but won nine straight games, claimed the Region 2-3A title and lost to his old team, eventual champion Cedar Grove, 28-6 in the quarterfinals.
