When Haralson County beat Model 43-0 in a cross-region game on Friday, it moved the Rebels to 3-1. It was their first shutout since Oct. 9 of last year.

The win also gave Rebels coach Scott Peavey 100 career victories.

Peavey has a career record of 100-99, with 32 of those wins (and 44 losses) coming at Haralson County, where he’s in his eighth season. His other 11 seasons were spent in Alabama, where he went 68-55 at Madison County, Asheville and Walter Wellborn.

As noted in in the Week 4 recap, three ranked teams lost so we knew there’d be movement in the polls. The top four stayed in place, but Lovett and Bleckley County each move up a spot to replace Northeast, which was pushed to No. 9. Jeff Davis leapfrogged Dodge County to No. 7, and the Washington County Golden Hawks replace Heard County at No. 10.

The Golden Hawks debut in the polls after beating Swainsboro 22-21 in their opener. They won despite trailing 21-8 late in the third quarter. Their previously scheduled games against 4A’s No. 9 Baldwin and 3A’s No. 9 Thomson were canceled due to Covid-related issues within their program. They’ll host 6A’s Evans (4-0) on Friday in their last game before Region 3 play begins. It’s the Golden Hawks’ first time being ranked since Week 1 of last season, when they lost their opener to Swainsboro, 24-20.

  • South Atlanta’s Keyjaun Brown has been nominated for Recruit Georgia’s play of the week for his 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Hornets’ 60-30 win over 5A’s Mundy’s Mill. It was one of six touchdowns for Brown in the game, and his is one of GHSF Daily’s top performances highlighted below. Also, the win marked the first for Michael Woolridge as Hornets coach.
  • Anfernee Patterson covered the Hornets’ win for The Atlanta Voice.
  • The Columbia Eagles beat Pace Academy 21-14 in a pivotal Region 6 matchup. Details can be found on the ScoreATL Week 4 roundup. The Eagles are 2-1, 1-0 after a Covid-shortened 2020 season that saw them play just six games, going 3-3. The Eagles last reached the playoffs in 2019 but haven’t advanced since 1997, when they reached the 3A quarterfinals. They last had a winning season in 2014, going 7-4.
  • With the loss to Columbia, the Pace Academy Knights (0-3, 0-1) have lost their first three games played for the first time since 2009. They started 0-3 in 2017, however the third loss was a forfeit. Since winning the 2A title in 2015, the Knights are 28-27, with four seasons played in 3A. In their return to 2A last year, they went 6-4 and lost to Fannin County in the first round as a No. 4 seed.
  • The Towers Titans won their Region 6 opener 27-0 over KIPP to move to 1-2. It was the first career win and shutout for first-year coach Michael Johnson, the program’s fourth coach since 2016. The Titans went 1-6 last year, with their lone win also a shutout, 22-0 over McNair. They haven’t had a winning season or been to the playoffs since 2009, when they went 7-4.
  • Here are highlights from Jeff Davis’ win over Tatnall County.
  • WTXL has highlights from Thomasville’s 28-10 win over Bainbridge in what was a special night for the Bulldogs.

  • As if it actually needed to be played out on the field, what was already known has again been confirmed and reinforced this week by Rabun County and others: Georgia high school football is much, much better than North Carolina high school football.
  • Former Rabun County quarterback Bailey Fisher has joined Gardner-Webb’s 5,000-yard club.
  • Former Laney linebacker Willie Eubanks recently joined the Citadel’s 300-tackles club.
  • Former Toombs County kicker Rigoberto Tinoco recently played on ESPN for Benedict.

Rogers (285 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries), South Atlanta running back Keyjuan Brown (225 yards and five touchdowns on 17 carries and returned an 86-yards kickoff return for a score), Thomasville linebacker Ty Anderson (nine solo tackles, two tackles for losses and two sacks and recovered a fumble), Toombs County receiver Cam Robinson (11 receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns), Vidalia place kicker Tate McDaniel (2-of-2 on field goals, including a school-record 46-yarder, and the opposition’s average field position following his four kickoffs was the 15-yard line), Worth County quarterback Chip Cooper (205 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, 13-of-24 passing for 172 yards and three touchdowns).
