Vikings running back Adrian Peterson suffered a Grade-1 high ankle sprain last week and will not play Sunday.

“With him not in there, I know the other guys will pick up the slack,” Falcons middle linebacker Curtis Lofton said.

Toby Gerhart will start in the place of Peterson, who has rushed for 872 yards and 11 touchdowns, according to Minnesota coach Leslie Frazier. Also, Lorenzo Booker will see action at running back.

Gerhart has 24 rushes for 118 yards this season. He has a long run of 31 yards.

Booker has four carries for 34 yards and a long run of 25 yards.

The Falcons rank second in the NFL against the run (85.4 yards per game).

“Not good enough,” said Lofton, who leads the team in tackles with 106, according to the coaches’ film review. “We want to get to No. 1. We have to keep pushing in practice, and hopefully we’ll get there by the end of the year.”
