Falcons fans who enjoy the more luxurious side of attending a game will have to dig deeper in their pockets next season.

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority, which oversees operations at the Georgia Dome, approved Tuesday a Falcons request to increase suite prices by 3 percent and super-suites prices by 4 to 5 percent. Jim Smith, the Falcons’ senior vice president for sales and marketing, said a one-year club-seat price would sell at a significant premium, but did not reveal the cost.

The Falcons say that about 20 percent of their top-tier seating — the equivalent of $4.53 million — is up for renewal for next season, and they hope to capture those dollars and then some. Overall premium-seat sales for this season are about $32 million.

It’s a move the Falcons are making earlier than usual. The team typically sets its new pricing at the beginning of the year, but changed direction to take advantage of the fans’ fervor over the team’s undefeated record.

“When we started this process of moving the calendar forward to ask for your approval, the season had not started and we were not 7-0,” Smith said.

The goal, Smith said, is to return suite and club-seat sales to levels that haven’t been reached since 2007.

“In the past, we’ve lost the opportunity to sell during the season and actually cultivate potential clients during the season,” Smith said. “We’d like to be able to do that this year.”
