Before free agency began, the Falcons set change in motion March 2 when they released Roddy White, the franchise's all-time leader in career catches (808), single-season catches (115) and 100-yard games (39).

Here is a day-by-day recap of additions and subtractions since free agency began March 9:

March 9

Big name for offensive line

Coach Dan Quinn didn't like how his team was pushed around at times last season. So, he signed one of the best centers in the NFL in Alex Mack, a former Cleveland Brown.

Familiar name returns

The Falcons re-signed Matt Schaub to come in and compete for the backup quarterback position. Schaub was drafted by the Falcons in the third round of the 2004 draft. He served as Michael Vick's backup before being traded to the Texans in 2007, where he played for offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, now with the Falcons.

Nose tackle gone after two seasons

The Falcons officially released Paul Soliai, with a post-June 1 designation. His agent, David Canter, previously announced that his client would be released after the Falcons approached them about a reduction in pay. Solai signed with Carolina on March 15.

March 10

In for White

The Falcons signed wide receiver Mohamed Sanu to a five-year contract for $32 million with $14 million guaranteed. Sanu, a former Cincinnati Bengal, will be expected to replace Roddy White, the franchise's all-time leading receiver.

’Spoon comes home

After the Falcons drafted Sean Weatherspoon out of Missouri in 2010, former linebacker Mike Peterson used to call him Simba. He was the young Lion, who would grow to one day rule all of the NFL jungle.

Free agent defensive end re-signs

The Falcons re-signed Adrian Clayborn to a two-year contract worth $9 million.

Contender at defensive end

The Falcons agreed to four-year, $18 million deal with Derrick Shelby, according to various reports. Shelby, 6-foot-2 and 280 pounds, had 3.5 sacks last season for the Dolphins.

March 14

Safety re-signs

The Falcons re-signed Charles Godfrey to a one-year contract. Godfrey played in eight games and made 11 tackles. Godfrey, 30, was steady down the stretch and did a nice job of covering tight ends.

March 15

Roster depth added

The Falcons signed safety Damian Parms, wide receiver Aldrick Robinson, and cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke.

March 16

Additional depth for offensive line, linebacker

The Falcons signed offensive tackle Tom Compton and linebacker LaRoy Reynolds.
