After Monday’s practice, Georgia Tech guard Shaquille Mason was awaiting an event far more important than the Aug. 30 season opener against Wofford. Mason’s girlfriend Sabrina Gonzalez is expected to deliver their first child any day.

“I feel good,” Mason said. “I guess it hasn’t hit me since it hasn’t happened.”

Mason and Gonzalez are expecting a girl, whom they will name Kamrie Maleah Mason. The dad-to-be said coaches will let him leave camp and return home to Columbia, Tenn., to attend the birth and have also shared advice on fatherhood.

“They’ve told me it’s a curveball,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
