Georgia Tech will play Stanford at the Barclays Center in New York on Dec. 13, coach Josh Pastner confirmed Thursday. The game’s scheduling was first reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

It will be part of a tripleheader in which West Virginia will play Purdue and Penn State will play Florida.

“It’s a good game,” Pastner said. “Us and Stanford, similar academic institutions.”

Tech last played Stanford in December 2000. The Cardinal finished this past season at 20-12. Tech associate head coach Eric Reveno is a Stanford grad.

Stanford is one of three known opponents that the Yellow Jackets will play in the non-conference portion of their schedule, the other two being Georgia and Kentucky. Tech is scheduled to play the Bulldogs at McCamish Pavilion on Nov. 19 and the Wildcats at State Farm Arena on Nov. 27. Tech also will play in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Pastner said that no other non-conference games had been finalized.

The entire schedule, Pastner said, “will be just as competitive” as last season’s schedule, when its non-conference schedule was rated among the toughest among all power-conference teams.
