Miami Hurricanes lose out on coveted RB recruit Alex Collins, who chooses Arkansas

The University of Miami lost out on one of its most coveted recruits Monday night when four-star running back Alex Collins chose Arkansas over the Hurricanes.

Collins originally committed to UM last year but backed off his pledge to consider other schools.

A commitment from Collins would have provided a nice boost to the Hurricanes’ recruiting class and a potential backfield mate for sophomore-to-be Duke Johnson. At South Plantation High School, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Collins gained nearly 3,000 yards and scored 38 touchdowns in two seasons. He is ranked as the nation’s 57th-best prospect by ESPN.com.

The Hurricanes have struggled this year to get commitments from local players. As it stands, UM does not have a commitment from a player in Broward or Palm Beach counties.
