F Tracy McGrady (1)

What we know: McGrady was a seven-time All-Star and two-time league scoring champion before injuries contributed to a steady decline. He had a resurgence with Detroit last season, when he focused less on scoring and more on play-making. McGrady can play small forward and also run the point.

What we don't know: The Hawks want McGrady to be a major contributor but can his health and energy hold up throughout a grueling schedule?

F Vladimir Radmanovic (77)

What we know: Radmanovic is 6-foot-10 but he does most of his work on the perimeter, where he's one of the top 3-point shooters in the league. He will drive to the basket off a shot fake and also is an efficient passer.

What we don't know: The Hawks want Radmanovic to spread the floor with his 3-point shooting but how will he fit into the team's new, aggressive approach to defense?

G Jannero Pargo (7)

What we know: After going undrafted out of Arkansas in 2002, Pargo has lasted nine years in the NBA by carving out a role as a steady, high-energy presence. He's a quick point guard who can get his own shot.

What we don't know: Pargo's career shooting percentages are lackluster and he doesn't get to the foul line. Can he be efficient enough to help replace the bench scoring Atlanta lost when Jamal Crawford departed in free agency?

G Willie Green (33)

What we know: Hawks coach Larry Drew is a long-time fan of Green because of his toughness. The combo guard started for the Sixers for most of two seasons before settling into a reserve role with New Orleans last season.

What we don't know: Green is a jump-shooter on a team that already has plenty of them and isn't much of a shot creator. How will he fit into the offense?

G Donald Sloan (12)

What we know: Sloan was on a scoring tear in the NBA Development League before coming to camp with Atlanta. He's quick despite his sturdy build and showed an ability to run the offense during Atlanta's two exhibition games.

What we don't know: Can Sloan be a reliable option for the Hawks when the games count and the competition stiffens?

G Jerry Stackhouse (42)

What we know: Stackhouse, 37, was an explosive scorer during his prime and has tried to find his niche as a role player as his career winds down. The Hawks think their locker room needs a pro like him to help the core players understand what it takes to join the NBA's elite teams.

What we don't know: Can Stackhouse play a big enough role to maintain his locker-room influence?

F Ivan Johnson (44)

What we know: After playing at the University of Oregon in 2005-06, Johnson played in the NBA Development League in 2007-08 and again last season.

What we don't know: Johnson has a muscular build but at 6-8, he's undersized for a power forward. Will his energetic, bruising style work in the NBA?
