The Hawks elected not to rest their starters against the Pistons Tuesday night as the completed a stretch of four games in five nights.
Coach Mike Budenholzer announced before the game he would go with the normal starting unit of Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, DeMarre Carroll, Paul Millsap and Al Horford. There was speculation the Hawks could rest at least several starters after hosting the Bucks Monday in the first of back-to-back games. All five starters sat out of Saturday’s game at the Hornets, the end of the first back-to-back of the stretch.
Budenholzer said the remainder of the bench, excluding the injured Dennis Schroder (undisclosed left toe injury) and Mike Scott (left big toe sprain), would be active.
The Hawks have already clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and have rested starters in seven games throughout the season.
“Mike has basically resting them on back-to-backs,” Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said. “You are not going to get a lot of rust there. He’s been through it in San Antonio. He knows how to handle it.”
The Hawks do have several days without a game as they don’t play again until Saturday when the host the Nets.
In regard to Schroder, Budenholzer offered no update on his condition after the reserve point guard was injured Monday. Schroder was hurt in the second quarter and did not return. He was scheduled to be examined by team doctors at Peachtree Orthopaedics Monday morning.
“No, I don’t have an update,” was all Budenholzer offered on Schroder.
