Hawks guard Malcolm Delaney had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle and will require 6-8 weeks to require, the team announced Monday.

Delaney hasn’t played since March 4 and the Hawks conclude their season on Tuesday.

Delaney, 29, is in his second NBA season after playing five years in Europe. This season, he started three of 54 games played with averages of 18.8 minutes, 6.3 points and three assists.

Delaney is eligible to become a free agent this summer. The Hawks can maintain the right to match offers by other teams by extending Delaney a one-year contract for about $3.13 million.

Delaney would become an unrestricted free agent on July 2 If the Hawks don’t sign him to an contract extension or extend the qualifying offer before then.
