Six weeks after going on the disabled list with a strained hamstring, Braves pitcher Anibal Sanchez will be activated to start Tuesday night against the Mets at SunTrust Park.
The veteran right-hander, on the DL since straining his right hamstring running pre-game sprints in the outfield April 18, is coming off a solid performance in his second rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett Friday.
He allowed one hit and one walk with four strikeouts in three scoreless innings in an outing that was limited in length so that he could start Tuesday on short rest.
Sanchez had given up eight hits including two homers, eight earned runs and three walks in 3-2/3 innings in his first rehab start for Gwinnett. But in his second time out he showed enough for the Braves to feel comfortable giving him the ball Tuesday.
The 34-year-old signed late in spring training and was impressive before the injury, going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in three regular-season games including two starts.
Sanchez last pitched in a major league game April 13, when he limited the Cubs to three hits and one walk with six strikeouts in six scoreless innings.
