A look at what’s coming up regarding the Braves’ planned move to Cobb County in 2017:
Hiring a general contractor: Firms or joint ventures interested in taking on the job of building the new stadium have until noon on May 8 to submit bids to Cobb County's purchasing department. A selection committee, consisting of Braves and Cobb representatives, will rank the bidders, interview short-listed firms, negotiate a construction management contract and recommend a choice to the Cobb Board of Commissioners for action on May 27, according to the request for proposals (RFP) sent to prospective general contractors.
Designing the stadium: Kansas City-based architecture firm Populous is in the process of designing the ballpark, which will seat about 41,500. The schematic design is due to be finished by May 9, according to a timetable included in the RFP to general contractors.
Readying the site: Site clearing on the hilly, largely wooded land near Cumberland Mall is scheduled to begin July 15 and be completed by Oct. 13, according to the Braves' timetable. Grading is scheduled to begin in September and actual construction of the stadium in February 2015. The stadium is supposed to be completed by Feb. 21, 2017.
