After so far losing every instant replay challenge this season, the Braves added former pitcher Buddy Carlyle as an assistant coach in charge of managing the protocol for the reviews.

According to Major League Baseball’s instant replay database, the Braves were 0-for-7 on manager replay challenges entering Friday. The Braves challenged five tag plays, one hit by pitch and one force play at first base.

Previously Rob Smith, the manager of baseball video operations, led the team’s replay review operation.

“We feel like (Carlyle) is a guy that can help Rob relieve some of his pressure,” Gonzalez said. “We will let him do MLB replay and help out throwing batting practice and hitting (infield practice).”

In addition those duties, Carlyle will assist with scouting opponents and pregame workouts. Gonzalez said Carlyle also will shadow pitching coach Roger McDowell.

Carlyle, 38, pitched parts of nine seasons in the big leagues from 1999 to 2015 including 83 games with the Braves from 2007 to 2009. Carlyle was with the Mets during spring training this year.
