Braves plan 20th anniversary celebration of ‘95 champs

Aug 7, 2015

The Braves plan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1995 World Series championship team as part of “alumni weekend” today through Sunday at Turner Field.

Most members of the ‘95 Braves are tentatively scheduled to be on hand, including catcher Javy Lopez, first baseman Fred McGriff, second baseman Mark Lemke, shortstop Rafael Belliard, third baseman Chipper Jones, left fielder Ryan Klesko, center fielder Marquis Grissom, right fielder David Justice and pitchers Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Steve Avery and Mark Wohlers.

The festitivies will precede games against the Miami Marlins.

Plans include a pregame ceremony tonight at 7 to recognize Braves alumni and celebrate the World Series championship team; a softball game Saturday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. featuring the 1995 team vs. other former Braves; and a Saturday night give-away of 1995 World Series replica rings to the first 20,000 fans through the gates.

In the half-century since major-league sports arrived here, the ‘95 Braves are the only Atlanta team to win the ultimate championship of its sport.
